IPL 2025 Mega Auction Date: The IPL 2024 Auction was a mini-auction, but the IPL 2025 will be a mega auction. Each team will have a few retention slots, with the rest of the players returning to the auction pool. The IPL 2025 Auction is expected to take place sometime between December 2024 and February 2025.

IPL 2025 Mega Auction Date

The next IPL Mega Auction is expected to last two days, similar to the one in 2022. While the auctions in 2023 and 2024 were held in December, the 2025 Auction might happen sometime between December 2024 and February 2025.

With the 17th season now over, there is already news about the next edition. The IPL chairman has shared an important update about the IPL 2025 Auction.

The chairman confirmed that there will be a Mega Auction in 2025. Each franchise is also expected to receive the right to match card. Notably, the IPL 2024 Auction was the first time the bidding took place outside of India.

How Many Players Will Be Allowed in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction?

There is no set limit on the number of players listed in the IPL auction, as it varies each year. The number depends on who signs up and is approved by their respective countries.

According to IPL chairman Dhumal, each team will likely be able to retain only 3 or 4 players, similar to the IPL 2022 mega auction, where 204 players were sold for Rs. 551 crore.

In the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, we might see exact figures if the retention limit is fixed at a maximum of 4 players per team. Official confirmation on the number of players each team can retain will come after discussions with BCCI stakeholders in the coming days.

IPL 2025 Mega Auction Expected Venues

The IPL 2025 season is expected to follow the same home-and-away format as IPL 2024. In the 2024 season, some teams played each other once, while others played twice. However, in IPL 2025, all teams might play against each other twice throughout the competition.

This assumption is based on a proposal for 84 matches in the next season, up from 74 matches this year. By 2027, the number of matches is expected to increase to 94.

Categories of Players in IPL 2025 Mega Auction

In the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, players are divided into different categories:

Capped Players: These are Indian players who have represented the national senior team in any format at least once.

Uncapped Players: These are Indian domestic players who have played in the first-class cricket but have never played for India internationally.

Non-Indian Players: These can be either capped or uncapped players from associate cricket nations or other countries. Whatever the category of a player, an IPL team can have a maximum of eight foreign players, but only four can be used in a match at a time.
